Music
Intent
At Cherry Grove Primary School, we believe that music plays an integral role in a child’s development and that music should be an enjoyable and exciting learning experience. We use Charanga to provide quality experiences and education. Through music education we believe that pupils should both learn technical music skills and wider social and emotional skills.
Our Musicians
Knowledge: Children will learn to understand simple musical notation and the concepts of pitch, dynamics, tempo, timbre, texture as well as the structure of a piece of music.
Skills: Children will learn to compose and perform their own simple rhythms and songs with increasing confidence.
Experiences: Our pupils will learn to sing, perform, read musical notation and play a tuned instrument, such as the recorder, or ukulele. Children in Year 4 take part in Music for Life every term learning guitar, drums and a brass instrument. We work closely with Amasing and look forward to performing every year at the Storyhouse. Individual lessons for piano, guitar, violin and a wide range of other instruments are available.
Curriculum Planning
Careful curriculum planning ensures that our pupils build on existing knowledge and skills over the course of their Cherry Grove learning journey. This leads to better understanding, knowledge retention and engagement.
