Writing
At Cherry Grove Primary we want all children to be able to write and communicate effectively. We have high expectations of writing across the curriculum and throughout the school. We believe that writing should be engaging, meaningful and for a range of purposes and audiences. We aim to use a variety of resources to support the teaching of writing.
We understand the importance of the written word and its role in inspiring children and unlocking their potential across the curriculum. Children who love the written word unlock a world of inspiration which can then translate into progression, achievement and passion in other areas.
We teach English following the Pathways Literacy units of work for both reading and writing. These units of work are written by experienced English consultants and our teachers adapt these for bespoke delivery to their classes based on each year group's individual needs. Writing is linked to engaging reading texts to 'hook in' the children and inspire great writing.
The units of work ensure children cover the National Curriculum for English in its entirety for both reading and writing; and the progressive structure of the programme ensures children's learning develops through the introduction of new skills being taught and regular opportunities to revisit and develop existing skills.
